Liceu Opera Barcelona

0

Barcelona’s Gran Teatre del Liceu is the city’s most prestigious opera house, and one of the most important venues in Europe. Unlike most of it peers, it wasn’t funded by the monarchy, which gave an even stronger sense of the popular value of culture. It was founded in 1847. Its current structure is the result of renovations following the most recent tragedy to strike this building: a great fire in 1994 which caused much damage.

Guided tours take visitors behind the scenes, with experienced guides who offer fascinating insights. The main tour starts at the Vestibule, browses the Auditorium, passes through the Hall of Mirrors and reveals the inner workings of the Círculo del Liceo, with its decorated rooms and unique Modernist architecture. A shorter “Express Tour” visits the main areas in 25 minutes.

The Gran Teatre del Liceu’s undisputed opulence and world-class acoustics create the perfect setting for touring international operas and national productions. If you can catch a performance here this is sure to be one of the highlights of your stay in Barcelona.
