Joan Miró Foundation

0

Josep Lluís Sert was the architect responsible for this spectactular world-class museum. The originality in his design allows light to wash through the open galleries due to carefully placed roof arches. You might also notice the simplicity and elegance of the tile floors and white walls of the Fundació Joan Miró.

If you enjoy art you’ll enjoy the collection of Miró’s graphic art, over 500 drawings, notebooks, 225 paintings and 150 sculptures. As you wander through, there are parts of the building designated to the permanent collection, a sculpture gallery which displays the Mercury Fountain by Alexander Calder, and a gallery displaying Miró sculptures.

Miró created the foundation before his death and dedicated this building built by his friend as the best place in the world to view works of art. In the basement The Espai 13, features the work of young artists. The Foundation is also responsible for other venues such as contemporary music displays and houses a research library.
