Centre d’Art Santa Mònica

0

The Centre d’Art Santa Mònica is one of Barcelona´s most unique art and culture centres located on the iconic La Rambla. Instead of exhibiting its own private collection, it hosts over 20 exhibitions a year, presenting the works of local and foreign artists. It primarily focuses on contemporary art, with particular emphasis on Catalan art with the aim of introducing it to the international scene. Also home to a cultural centre, CASM provides a wealth of information regarding current events and activities taking place in the city.

One of the most fascinating elements of the Centre d’Art Santa Mònica is the building itself. The museum is housed in a former 17th century renaissance style monastery and in 1984 was declared a historical monument of national interest. Whilst its ancient architecture has been carefully preserved and renovated over the years in order to maintain its historical significance, certain parts have been modernized. The recently installed access ramp on the façade leads to an open-air terrace which provides spectacular panoramic views of the surrounding city and provides an ideal spot for a cup of coffee in the café.
