The Jamón Experience

0

typesIt is a well known fact that Spain is famous for their divine Mediterranean diet, and Jamón Iberico is probably one of Spain’s most quintessential foods, especially if its served in a Spanish bar alongside a caña! The Jamón Experience is a must, a truly unique experience in which you can learn about the process, origins and types of ham in an interactive and entertaining way.

Located on Barcelona’s famous La Rambla street, specifically very close to the Gran Teatre de Liceu, why not drop in next time you find yourself there or in the Gothic Quarter? With its very convenient location the Jamón Experience is a great way to entertain yourself for an afternoon, whilst learning something new and trying a Spanish delicacy!

jamonSpanish ham is known for its top quality, with even the cheapest of hams being superior to those found in many other countries. For this very reason, everybody should try the Jamón Experience when in Barcelona. Lasting around an hour in total, the experience includes an audiovisual tour and a ham tasting experience to be enjoyed by people of all ages.

cuts THE JAMÓN TOUR & MUSEUM

The experience starts off with the audiovisual tour, spread out across 8 rooms. With the help of 3D visuals, models and audio effects, the tour explains the journey of ham from the Iberian pigs in the field to the final ham product on the plate, and the methodologies used which brings us the diverse flavors of the cured hams we know and love! This part of the tour is insightful, educational and entertaining, as throughout these rooms the audience is guided through the journey with detailed explanations, allowing the visitors to appreciate how much time and energy in fact goes in to producing the final product of the famous Jamón Iberico.

The tour is available in 8 different languages; Catalan, Spanish, English, French, German, Russian, Italian and Chinese. For groups of multiple nationalities special individual headphones are available.

 robTHE TASTING EXPERIENCE

The educational audiovisual tour culminates in perhaps the most exciting part for most – the ham tasting, accompanied by a choice of beer, cava, wine or water. (A glass of cava is highly recommendable, according to the owner, as it is the best drink for refreshing the taste buds between trying the different types of ham … any excuse for a delicious glass of fizz!) The tasting is lead personally by an ham expert, providing detailed explanations on each of the 6 hams (also available in multiple languages).

The ham selection ranges from the standard ‘Reserva’ to richer ‘Ibericos’ from Salamanca, Extremadura, Cordoba and Huelva. The order of ham tasted allows  them to gradually increase and vary in flavour, bringing you to the last; the richest and most intense, the Huelva Iberico.  This is a personal experience, as providing the visitor with 6 different cuts of Jamón allows them to see which one is their favourite.

cavaThe tasting takes place in the open plan upstairs area, which has a superior view of the well-known Ramblas. A relaxed and comfortable space, the experience is unique, perfect for groups of all sizes, from families and friends to larger group functions.

Looking for somewhere to host an event? The Jamón Experience boasts 2000m2 of unique, multipurpose space, able to host all kinds of events. Equipped to entertain live music events, to shopping events, drink receptions and conferences, this is the perfect location for anyone wishing to host an event, however formal or informal, where guests are able to move around, enjoy themselves, and most importantly, enjoy the Jamón.

hamsTHE SHOP

The conclusive stage of the Jamón journey is the shop on the ground floor (open also to the public). The shop stocks the range of hams included in the tasting experience, from full legs to smaller packets. What’s best about this is that it’s tax free, so there is no excuse not to make a purchase if you are a lover of Spanish ham! The shop also stocks culinary books, as well as typical Spanish produce and a huge range of divine wines, cavas and champagnes, which accompany ham perfectly. The Jamón experience team is friendly and eager to help, making the experience as enjoyable and stress-free as possible.

For a more special gift, we recommend the Jamón souvenir book, in which you will find the information about all the hams you have tasted, as well as a sample of each in a sealed packet on every page you turn… an absolute winner!
