0

Erotic Museum BarcelonaArt, Love and Eroticism

This emblematic museum was founded in 1997 and is located on La Rambla, in front of the famous Boqueria market. We slipped behind the scenes to ask museum representative Alexandra Emanuela about this passionate ride into the world of eroticism and its expression in art, through more than 800 pieces in the collection.

Which cultures and eras had an especially rich erotic culture?

You’ll be surprised by how many erotic objects, illustrations and sculptures there are in the museum, and from such diverse cultures. Some are more than 2000 years old, such as the Roman culture of Pompeii. Greek erotic culture reveals the origins of homosexuality, there’s prohibited Japanese shunga art from 1603-1867, and the Kama Sutra from India. Prepare to be fascinated by their detailed erotic content, the sexual life of kings and geishas, sexual positions and much more.

Surprise us with some details or statistics

Our museum grows and improves its collection every year. We receive between 8000-10,000 visitors each month in high season, and also offer various activities. These include Erotic Walking Tours around Barcelona, and walks though Barcelona with Marilyn Monroe on an erotic bicycle. We always try to be different because everyone’s eroticism is different.

Erotic Museum BarcelonaWhat events is the Museum organizing this season?

You’ll find details of our cultural activities on our social media. We hold jazz concerts, erotic theatre performances, Burlesque shows, and more. There will also be a photography competition in collaboration with the Erotic Museum of Amsterdam, which is our official partner.

What are the most unusual attractions in the museum, and what are the most serious?

We have a huge variety of both, but our current big hit is in the sculpture garden. It’s the first erotic animation, which is more than100 years old. It’s simply amazing. Another popular attraction is the first pornographic films made in Barcelona in 1912, which belonged to the private collection of King Alfonso XIII who was a big pornography fan.
