With Barcelona’s short winter already behind us and temperatures slowly rising, what better way is there to celebrate the fantastic weather than with some water sports?  Barcelona sits by the sea and has a multitude of various activities for tourists and locals to participate in.  Here are some hot picks with a few of our favorite water sports for you to enjoy this spring and summer!

Sailing in the Breeze

Sailing is popular in culture, with both the Barcelona World Race as well as excellent sailing facilities for the public.  You don’t nsailingeed to own a sailboat to enjoy the sea breeze from below a flapping sail. Port Vell is teeming with opportunities to take a sailboat or yacht ride and explore the open waters of Barcelona.  There are several sites where you can rent a sailboat or yacht for a day and take it out to sea.  If you don’t have a skipper’s license or the experience to work one of these crafts on your own, several companies organize sailing trips for a few hours or even a weekend, in which you can help out with the sailing or just sit back and relax. Ride Those Waves While Surfing or Kitesurfing

kitesurfBarcelona, with its nearby beaches and great overall atmosphere and culture, is seen as a fun and exciting spot for surfers.  With a close proximity to the sea and a fun atmosphere, take a trip out to the beach for the day and take a ride!  With both rentals for surfboards and a surf school right on the port, both beginners and advanced surfers can enjoy themselves in the waves.  If kitesurfing is more your thing, have no fear.  Barcelona offers the same opportunities as regular surfing, with rentals and classes for beginners to take.  This coupled with the strong breezes of the Mediterranean prove to be fun for anyone who wants to try.
