Like every one else she was looking for her own little place to rent in Barcelona...
One day she saw this advert for a fully furnished studio flat for 300 euros a month near the centre of town. She called up the mobile number, went to see the flat, and it was really too good to be true. So she decided to take it and asked the owner if he can wait one week so she can prepare the 2 months deposit and month in advance totaling 900 euros. The Landlord tells her no problem, but she has to give him a deposit of 100 euros, just so he keeps the flat for her.
The following week she meets him in the flat, pays him the rest (800 euros), signs a contract and gets the keys. She is all happy, telling all her friends she has this great place, arranging a huge house party and for good reason, 300 euros for a fully furnished studio flat is really cheap. Next day she takes all her stuff, moves out of her old room, and arrives at her new flat; she opens the door to HER flat, and finds this guy coming out of the shower half naked. After the initial shock, she asks the guy what he thinks he’s doing, showering in her flat, where the guy in return is trying to find how she got into his flat.
After cooling off it turns out the other guy rented the flat just the day before, but from a different owner. She tried to call the guy she had paid the rent to, but his mobile was disconnected, after calling the real owner, it turns out that the guy who supposedly let her the flat and signed the “contract” was the old tenant, and he was cashing in before he moved out. And amazingly enough, in the following week 5 more shocked tenants who had paid the 900 euros to the bogus landlord arrived at the flat. Well, certainly enough people fell for it to start their own little club.
