In Italy earlier this year Andreas and his cousin had a ingenious idea. To get some extra cash together they wanted to stage an insurance fraud case. The principle was dead simple. For maximum reimbursement from the life insurance company, which Andreas was using, he'd have to suffer an incident resulting in permanent disability. So how achieve this task? Of course by amputating a leg! But here comes the tricky part. How to make it look like Andreas had not chopped off his leg himself? Well, maybe seeing Texas Chainsaw Massacre one too many times, or Running Man in slow motion, they decided to stage the incident near a country lay-by, using a chain saw as the method of amputation. Being always an effective way of removing body parts it seemed the obvious choice to these two movie buffs. But there was danger involved! How would he survive to see the money? They had a simple answer to that. Equipped with a mobile phone and first aid knowledge Andreas seemed confident to be very rich in a short time.
On a cold January day the two embarked on their grand plan, arrived at the lay-by, and when sure that there was nobody there to identify the cousin, he commenced the plan by sawing off Andreas' leg and fleeing out of town, tossing the chain saw into the river.
Only problem in the plan was that Andreas' knowledge of First Aid or biology for that matter was not sufficient enough to realize in time that by chopping off a leg you also severe through a major artery. The inflicted injury was simply too much for Andreas' McGyver-style-help-your-self-First-Aid, and he subsequently bled to death, before any help could arrive.
