The beach in Port Olympic.

Once an industrial port filled with factories and workshops, Port Olympic was transformed for the Olympic Games in 1992. A beautiful marina was built for the sailing events and the beach was extended to approximately 4km in length.

Sightseeing

The beach surrounds Port Olympic, you can quickly arrive at Barceloneta, the most popular beach in the city, or you can keep walking and arrive at Bogatell which is usually less crowded. From the beach you can soak up the sun on the golden sand and take a dip in the blue waters of the Mediterranean.

El Peix d’Or in Port Olympic is hard to miss; this giant copper fish sculpture can be seen from any spot on the beach. Designed by Frank O. Ghery for the 1992 Olympics, this large statue has become a symbol for the coastal city. During one of your beach day take a walk over to the sculpture and see just how massive it actually is.

Port Olympic Marina

Just a few of the many sailboats that dock in Port Olympic.

Port Olympic Marina is a great place to relax. If you are interested in sailing boats you will find some amazing one here, as there are about 700 berths that are usually always full. You might also spot some very extravagant yachts. The marina is a nice place come for a picnic lunch or to watch the sun set at the end of the day as the boats return back to their resting place after an afternoon of sailing on the Mediterranean sea.

Dining & Nightlife

Casino Barcelona is right near the beach. It has a full cocktail and wine bar and an amazing buffet. If you feel like gambling you could try you hand a a game of poker or black jack, you can also play some of the many automated slots.

El Cangrejo Loco is an amazing seafood restaurant in Port Olympic with a lovely dining area that looks out onto the port. This seafront restaurant is perfect for a romantic dinner of paella, lobster, or veal, just to name a few options. They offer special set menus or you can order from their large à la carte menu.

How to get there

The L4 metro runs all the way along the seafront from Barceloneta to Ciutadella and Port Olympic as well as Bogatell. There are also many buses which follow the same route if you would like to admire the scenery but don’t fancy the walk!
