Watch Learn Eat: Paella workshops run by locals

0

Sara is mother of two beautiful little girls, young and friendly. She is laying out the ingredients for lunch when I arrive at her house, which is just a few minutes’ walk from the fabulous Park Güell. What’s on the menu? Paella. Mmmm…

Salsamenta 10The open-plan kitchen is homely and warm and leads out onto a magical garden filled with trees and plants. Having spent the morning amidst the hustle and bustle of Barcelona’s busy streets, I truly feel as though I’ve discovered a secret paradise here.

Sara is wearing her apron and is ready to receive her guests – or rather, students, as she will be showing them how to make a recipe that is very typical for her, yet completely new and exotic for them. She will be teaching special tricks and techniques to get this delicious dish just right, before sitting down and enjoying it all together afterwards.

Salsa Menta Cooking CoursesSara and Jordi have been running workshops in their gorgeous home for two years, and they love it. By sharing their passion for cooking with visitors from all over the world it would seem that they too have learned a lot from their guests as they chat away and get to know each other during the afternoon. Groups are often very international and courses are run in English (though Sara, in addition to Spanish and Catalan, also speaks French).

There are up to ten places per workshop, making it a fun day activity for families, couples, and anyone who is travelling solo, so it’s a great opportunity to meet people whilst getting stuck into learning something new. The best bit is that after the workshop you have the skills to make your own perfect paella when you go home! Don’t miss out on this unique and authentic experience. Cost: 45€ per person.

Find more information about their paella workshop online at www.lasalsamenta.com. Sara and Jordi also offer their kitchen, garden-terrace and catering services for private social events and business meetings.
