Minifestival de Música Independent

If you’re a fan of independent music, Barcelona has just the event for you: Minifestival de Música Independent.  In their 21st year of performing, this event draws a crowd from all around Barcelona to see new up-and-coming artists from around the world perform on the festival stage at La Capsa El Prat on May 7th.

 

The Catenary Wires (London)

catenary wiresThis new indie pop group is comprised of large-name indie artists Amelia Fletcher and Rob Pursey, ex-members of groups Talulah Gosh, Heavenly, Marine Research, and Tender Trap.  Originally starting out playing in their house with their daughter’s ¾ size acoustic guitar, this band has expanded exponentially through their tours throughout the US, Spain, and even Japan.  Their incredibly catchy songs featuring primarily voice, acoustic guitar, and an assortment of percussion is sure to be a hit at this year’s Minifestival.

 

Sea Lion (Stockholm)

sea lionLinn Osterberg from Gothenburg, Sweden hasn’t been in the music scene as long as the last group, but she is certainly making a large impact.  With her haunting, even child-like voice, Linn is able to use only her guitar and singing to put the audience in a trance.  While her debut album “Desolate Stars” only lasts 25 minutes, each song is incredibly stunning and will certainly have you yearning for more.

 

Alondra Galopa (Granada)

alondra galopPunk rocker Juan Antonio Salinas and pop singer Monica Navarro come together in Alondra Galopa to create a new type of indie music that combines both dark and light moments to keep the listener on the edge of his or her seat.  Not only do the two combine their differing styles, but also utilize all of their musical capabilities to create a very large sound, as well.  Throughout their 3 released albums this group has produced elegant and catchy music that is becoming fairly widespread.

 

Jessica & The Fletchers (Barcelona)

Jessica-The-FletchersAlthough they only recently began in 2013, this indie-pop group from Barcelona has been hitting several large stages, including those at Primavera Sound and NYC Popfest.  Having a similar vibe to indie bands from the nineties (such as The Pixies), Jessica & The Fletchers use an incredibly distorted sound along with clear vocals to create their own unique sound.  Full of energy, their music will have all of the listeners enjoying themselves.

 

Rombo (Barcelona)

romboWith sounds reminiscent of Raincoats, Slumber Party, and Sibyl Vane, this group of women from Barcelona create music that is short but catchy, and certain to have you on your feet.  In a Ramones-esque style Rombo keeps both their songs and concerts fast-paced, with no time for resting during the non-stop party that they offer.

 

Obrigada (El Vallès)

obrigadaThis wave of punk rock/power pop comes in the form of Obrigada, a band from the local Vallès.  With incredible rhythmic music and intense melodies, Obrigada’s music blows you away with their power and ferocity.  With their own unique sound unlike many others, Obrigada stands out from all others and has developed its own fairly strong fanbase.  A perfect band to round up the lineup for this year’s Minifestival.
