Beaches outside Barcelona
As soon as you get out of Barcelona, the beaches become much nicer. Casteldefels Playa is a great beach. It’s only a T10 ride away on the train or bus you have kilometres of sandy beach. Don’t even attempt going by car unless you love getting up at 6am, were blessed with an unusual dosage of luck at birth, or you wish to walk several kilometres in the scorching heat before even seeing a grain of sand. The train station is located at the top of Casteldefels beach. It is well worth taking the time to walk for quarter of an hour down the long road running along the beach to the less crowded sections. Further along the beach you will also come across the chiringuitos of Casteldefels. These little beach bars serve cold drinks and food. The food tends to be basic but some of the bars have hidden treasures on their menu to be explored by the hungry. Another detail you’ll appreciate is their shaded terraces which allow you to enjoy the breeze while not being melted by the glaring sun.
You could also head out of Barcelona in the other direction toward the beaches of Ocata and Mataró. They are very popular with families as the beaches are very wide and quiet with plenty of space to spread out a bit more. You will also notice some great waves here which you don’t really get on the beaches in Barcelona due to the offshore wave breakers.
