Supermarkets in Barcelona
The most central supermarket is Carrefour express on La Rambla, you will be able to find most things you need here but be warned that prices are more expensive than most of the other supermarkets. It can also be very busy due to its location. There are also many Spar supermarkets which are very small and pricey but it is cheaper and find a Dia, Mercadona, Sorlí, Bon Preu, or LIDL to do your shopping. In addition try to avoid imported produce, it is much cheaper to buy local and seasonal goods; change from the brands you normally go for at home in favour of the Spanish names and the supermarkets own brand as this will significantly reduce the amount you spend. Supermarkets offer a home delivery service, which can be especially handy if you live on a top floor flat without a lift and like to drink mineral water in the summer. However, if you’re really eager to save pennies and get into Spanish lifestyle avoid the supermarkets and get yourself down to the local market (there is one in almost every neighbourhood) where you’ll find a wide range of fresh, good value produce of all kinds.
