Market Els Encants Vells

Those seeking more permanent mementos can head to Barcelona’s flea markets, the largest of which being the Fira de Bellcaire. Also known as ‘Els Encants Vells’ (‘The Old Charms’), it holds an eclectic mix of products, with some treasures to be found if you are prepared to do a little searching. There is also an antique auction, held at 7am and again at midday, when prices drop. Bargaining is accepted and expected, so don’t be afraid to argue the price, and while the market is meant to go on all afternoon, stalls tend to pack up early, so get there in the morning to find the best buys. It is also important to always be aware of pickpockets – the rush of people looking and talking and bargaining and pushing gives them an ideal environment in which to work.
