Barcelona is split into many different barrios or districts which spread outwards from the Ciutat Vella in the centre. The old town in Barcelona used to be surrounded by a wall, and the whole city was inside the walls, but as the population increased the city began to extend beyond the walls. Each barrio is distinguishable from the rest by its unique architecture and style. The main sites for tourists are located centrally but after reading our guide you will see that there is something to do everywhere in Barcelona and you will want to visit every barrio from Montjuïc to Vila Olimpic.
