Concert Venues in Barcelona
You will never be short of a live music concert on any night in Barcelona. They range from intimate acoustic or jazz gigs to huge rock concerts and dance raves! There is a real mix of music styles in Barcelona and that is reflected in the number of different concert venues across the city.
The main concert venues in Barcelona where the biggest artists head to are the Razzmatazz, the Sala Bikini, the Palau Club Sant Jordi and the Sala Apolo.
A classical Barcelona concert venue that is a feast for the eyes even before the performance starts is Palau de la Musica just off Via Laeitana; the amazing architecture here makes it difficult to pay attention to the performances as you’re too busy looking at the enchanting design.
Barcelona's Forum: 2 Years On
The International Forum of Cultures which was held in Barcelona between May and September of 2004 generated a huge amount of controversy, the cloud of which still lingers over the venue that kept the name of "Forum".
Located between Barcelona and Sant Adrià de Besòs, one question that continues to be debated about these 23 hectares of exhibition and conference grounds is whether the huge investment received by this massive project has in any way benefited the local community, or whether it merely continues to expand the interests of the multinational corporations that provided much of the initial funding. Concept and controversy aside, we take a look at the Forum site of today and what facilities are currently offered. The Forum site itself consists of indoor and outdoor spaces. Its Convention Centre can hold up to 3,500 people, whilst the Parc dels Auditori has a capacity of 8,000 people in the large auditorium and 3,000 in the smaller one. Industry specific World Congresses, seminars, and conferences also continue to take place here.
Since the closure of the international event, the Forum Commission have been developing the leisure facilities in an attempt to establish a reputation as a worthwhile destination for the city’s many visitors. Taking advantage of its seafront location, a supervised 2 hectare swimming area with shallow areas for swimmers, and kayak and canoe rental service is open during the summer from May to October. A "Reef Park" or "Parc dels Esculls" has also been set up, with the intention of drawing plankton to the various underwater pillars and thereby initiating a food chain that would eventually attract fish. Scuba divers and marine biologists take advantage of this opportunity to observe marine life in its natural habitat. Perhaps the most environmentally significant aspect of the site is the giant Photovoltaic Solar Panel, which has a 10,500m2 surface, and which is one of the largest Solar Panels in Europe.
The Forum site currently seems to have found its greatest success as a venue for large music events, thanks to its easy access by public transport and ample size that ensures no overcrowding. The last two editions of the Feria de Abril have been held here, with marquees being erected in the open esplanades and fairground equipment easily being accommodated here. The Primavera Sound festival has been staged here in recent years, and the large concerts that were previously held in Plaza Catalunya during the Mercé festival in September have also been moved here.
