Bardot’s art of gastronomy and wine
Bardot has quickly become a second home to its regular clientele and a welcome surprise for any visitors who stumble upon it. This Catalan take on a French bistro produces innovative menus every day. If you’re looking for a great restaurant in Barcelona, this is it!
The Bardot concept
Founding partner Rodrigo Varela, originally from Argentina, had already travelled extensively around Spain before moving to Barcelona in 2002. He worked in several notable restaurants here, from Group Tragaluz to Bar Mut before embarking upon his own venture.
Location was vital, so when he saw this empty space in Enric Granados he immediately recognised its potential and snapped it up. As Varela points out, there´s a growing “gastronomical triangle” in this part of the Eixample, between Aragón, Diagonal, Enric Granados and Muntaner. It is fast becoming one of the trendiest hotspots for great restaurants, bars and clubs, where people can arrive by taxi, have a few drinks, and walk from one place to the next.
Stepping inside you’ll notice the different spaces. The bar area is always lively with conversation, and often enhanced by a barista opening an interesting new wine for clients to try by the glass and compare notes. Wine is taken seriously here, and a custom designed cellar reveals 700+ bottles from Catalunya, France, Italy and beyond. “We like to give people the chance to experience something different,” comments Varela, who is constantly looking out for the best vintages and new proposals.
Fresh, seasonal cuisine
As you step down into the cosy dining area, a delicious scent from the kitchen is sure to waft your way. “Our principles are that fresh, natural traditional dishes are always the best. Eating the way people used to! We buy the best ingredients from all over town, which is a bit of a logistical nightmare,” Varela continues.
This month’s seasonal dishes include a rice dish from the Pyrenees with mushrooms and pork, hamburger with foie and apple, and baby sepia with Santa Pau beans. However, the menu largely depends on the ingredients of the day. A special weekend family menu is available with a selection of starters to share, main dishes, and drinks for just 22€ per person.
Clients are always well looked after. The staff take pride offering a highly personalized service, which for regulars includes knowing their tastes and allergies. Many don´t even read the menu, they just ask for recommendations, and are always satisfied. But don´t just take our word for it, experience Bardot for yourself.
