BARCELONA TAXIS

There are about 12.000 taxis operating in the city. As well as being hailed on the street, taxis can be booked in advance. A taxi is available when you see a green light in the front window. you cant mistake a taxy as the colour yellow and black is very visible!

In general it is relatively cheap to take a taxi in Barcelona. During the rush hour trafic you are better off using the metro though, as there is loads of traffic. The prices range from 3,00 euros for a ultra short trip (from the bottom of La Rambla to Placa Catalunya, yes we were so tired one day, we could not even face that little trip on an especially hot summers day) to 6-7 euros if you’re travelling across districts. But if you get caught in traffic that bill can increase drastically.

The taxi meter starts with €1,80 and €1,90 during the night time. (please beware during weekends nights and holidays 12am to 6am the meter starts running at 4€) and each kilometre is charged at 0,82 Euro during day time and 1.04 during night time a 1 Euro supplement is charged for each piece of large luggage. airport charges are 3€ either way.
when calling a taxi they stat running the meter as soon as they start driving to pick you up but cant reach more than 3€ extra. going to or from the airport should set you back €25 obviously depending on luggage etc.
when it comes to tipping the taxis the local people usually dont tip at all, but since tourists are expected to tip (no comment) 5% to maximum of 10% should do the trick!
