 | Julian Wickham has completely adapted the classic Shakespeare tale for a 21st century audience.
Set in present day Hollywood, the “Taming of the Shrew” Follows the journey of an eccentric theatre director called Petrucchio and his young actor protégé Lucientio. After losing all of their money on a dud play in London they decide to go to Hollywood to discover rich women and to open a theatre to prove to the world that theatre is better than film in all respects. As the eccentic Petrucchio proclaims:
“We are here to slay the cinematic dragon!”
The duo along with their colorful assistants, Gina and Tranio, soon come face to face with Hollywood’s hottest and popular young starlet Bianca… and her older more intimidating sister Katherine. There is an extreme clash of personalities, lifestyles and chemistries.
A love story, a comedy, it is a play about attraction, seduction, greed and ambition.
Julian Wickham’s version of “The Taming of the Shrew” is a modern, light hearted play that explores and exposes the age old battle of power and domination between the sexes.
With plenty of pop culture references the play highlights the differences between Great Britain and America, and displays on stage the extreme personalities of people from both sides of the Atlantic.
Performed in Modern day English. “The Taming of the Shrew” is suitable for all audiences.
